We explain what a customer is and why it is so important for the economy. Also, some meanings about this term.
What is client?
The concept of client is used to refer to the people or entities that make use of the resources or services that provides another.
The origin of This term dates back to ancient Rome the client being that economically inferior individual, who placed himself at the service of one of higher rank in a relationship, which was not regulated and which granted, to the higher rank, important social prestige.
This definition is the essence of the term, which however is dismembered and reinvented according to the field that uses it. There are many fields that take the term and apply it in its context, but always on the basis of being a person or organization that, voluntarily, receives something in exchange for something else what a delivery.
Marketing is one of the disciplines that uses the concept the most: it understands it as the person who purchases a product either to make use of it, or to obtain a greater profit with it.
Organizations live based on customers, since they are the ones who make each consumer decision. contribute to what will later be the company's profit. Obviously, the categorizations made of customers will vary greatly depending on the type of company or product considered, but in all cases we can speak of satisfied or dissatisfied customers, according to the result they have had, that is, the level at which the company satisfied its needs (which is known to have an impact on future purchases). Companies also analyze customers according to their psychological profile, their willingness to change and their consumption habits.
Advertising, for example, is a key link between the businessman and the client, as it is the vehicle through which the idea and the values that are to be assigned to the products reach the senses of the potential consumer. This conception of marketing is derived from the need that microeconomics has had to establish classes of consumers.
Much of the classical theory of the company considers the terms of need, utility and satisfaction in consumption, so it was necessary to delve deeper into these concepts. The economy also determines these criteria of frequency and volume of purchases.
Two more meanings of the term client, which arise from this relationship between two entities that exchange something are:
- From politics It is believed that a client is a person who receives some type of favor from a political party or leader, and who will repay that favor through support or voting (hence the term “clientelism“).
- From the right A person who is in the protection of another is called a client. The clearest example is that of the defense lawyer, who must defend his client in the context of litigation. The image of the lawyer using the expression “my client” to refer to his client in the context of an oral trial, for example, is well known.
