What is constancy?
The two different meanings of the word constancy have to do, each one in its own way, with the meaning of the verb constar, synonymous with consist, whose first definition according to the Royal Spanish Academy is “said of one thing: to be true or manifest.”
This relationship between constancy and constancy goes back to the origin of both words, which is the Latin word I will establishformed by the prefix with- (“union”) and the verb stare (“being detained or located in a place”). So the original meaning of constancy had to do with immobility, the permanence without changes, in the same place, whether real or figurative.
So, in principle, that which consists is that which remains the same as itself, that which is not modified at the whim of anyone, that is, that it is constant, which means that it has constancy. Consistency has to do with what does not change course, with that which is true to itself and that therefore, in a figurative sense, it is true, it is certain, it is real and manifest.
From there, then, come the two precise meanings that we give to the word constancy, and which we will see separately.

The record as proof or document
In everyday life, we often receive constancies, i.e. documents of different types that take as certain, manifest and true, some transaction or a procedure that we have done. This is because, since it is written, the information cannot be changed at anyone's will, and the document is then a reflection of the truth of what happened.
Thus, the documents issued by an office in which we have applied a request, for example, are records, but so are the invoices that they give us when we make a purchase, and that we will later need in case our product is defective or requires some change: that invoice shows that we are telling the truth regarding the purchase.
In this sense we will often talk about proof of registration, proof of purchase, proof of processing, proof of delivery, etc.
Consistency as a virtue of the individual
On the other hand, the constancy It is the virtue of being persistent in trying to achieve a goalan objective or a task that they desire. Thus, someone who is persistent does not rest, does not change course and does not stop trying until, finally, he or she succeeds. Demonstrate determination, commitment, certainty.
Consistency is highly valued in individuals, because It is often a guarantee of success. Not because constant people do not have setbacks, or do not face obstacles, but because their ability to stay in the same lane, without changing objectives, eventually makes them overcome all difficulties and achieve what they had initially set out to achieve.
The opposite of a constant person, in this sense, is an inconstant person, that is, unstable, fickle, uncertain, inconsequential.
