Educational Community

We explain what the educational community is and how it is integrated into society. In addition, we tell you what its objectives are.

Parents, students and students meet at an event aimed at the educational community.
The educational community encompasses those who affect and are affected by the educational process.

What is the educational community?

The educational community is the set of social actors that have to do with the educational event whether it be people (parents or representatives, students, teachers) or institutions (schools, ministries, unions). The educational community encompasses all those who affect and are affected by the educational process, and who therefore form a direct or indirect part of it.

The entire educational community is important when thinking or rethinking the way in which the educational process is carried out. This is because education is not an element isolated from the rest of society, but is part of it in numerous aspects: social, cultural, political, urban planning, economic, etc.

Thus, the mission of an educational community is not only to contribute to the formal improvement of the educational process that takes place within the specific institution (school, institute, university), but also to citizen education, which accompanies the process. formal and has to do with the integration of students into society.

Changes and innovations in the way we conceive how education occurs have an impact on the educational community and that is why it is often involved in these changes. The changes and innovations may have to do with the way in which schools are administered, the laws that regulate education and educational work, the urban layout of school campuses, cooperation plans with other institutions, among other important matters.

Objectives of an educational community

An educational community acts according to its own problems and interests, so not all of them necessarily respond universally in the same way. However, broadly speaking, its tasks have to do with:

  • Promote positive integration between the educational establishment and its environment whether it be the neighbors, the nearby businesses, the roads in the area, among other issues.
  • Positively influence the quality of education provided, both inside the classroom and outside it, and serve as a support network in the event of unforeseen events.
  • Strengthen ties between family, school and community.
  • Take part in community benefit programs that the educational establishment can offer.
  • Serve as witnesses and controllers of the functioning of the educational institution.
  • Participate in the debate regarding school needs and community with regard to unions, ministries and other public and private institutions.
  • Ensure respect for the right to education.
